Professional Profile

Vincenzo qualified as a registered nurse in Italy in 2014 and began his professional career in Oxford shortly thereafter. He initially worked as a scrub theatre practitioner within orthopaedic and plastic surgery specialties. Over time, he developed a keen interest in cardiothoracic surgery, which soon evolved into a deep professional passion.

In 2019, Vincenzo commenced his Surgical Care Practitioner (SCP) training at Royal Papworth Hospital – Cambridge, concurrently undertaking a Master of Science in Surgical Care Practice at Anglia Ruskin University. He completed both programmes within two years, graduating with distinction. Following this, he embarked on a doctoral programme focused on advancing clinical standards in radial artery assessment.

His doctoral research involves a multicentre prospective observational study examining the diagnostic accuracy of the most widely used radial artery assessment techniques. The study also aims to validate a novel rating scale for evaluating radial artery quality, to inform clinical decision-making regarding graft suitability in coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Vincenzo’s research contributes to the strategic goal of establishing a standardised, evidence-based approach to radial artery screening.

In 2022, he completed formal training in Endoscopic Vessel Harvesting (EVH) for both venous and arterial conduits, a technique in which he has developed particular expertise and advocacy. He subsequently led a comparative analysis highlighting the advantages of EVH over conventional open harvesting, particularly in terms of reduced wound morbidity, shorter hospital stays and improved cost-efficiency for NHS organisations. His findings have been disseminated nationally and internationally through seminars, conferences and European summits.

As Educational Lead at Royal Papworth Hospital, Vincenzo prioritises mentorship and professional development. He is committed to fostering a supportive learning environment and is actively involved in developing an internal training programme for EVH.

Currently serving as a dedicated Surgical Care Practitioner and Postgraduate Researcher, Vincenzo brings substantial expertise in the peri-operative management of cardiothoracic surgery patients. He is driven by a commitment to excellence, continuous learning and collaborative practice. Vincenzo remains actively engaged with the wider cardiothoracic surgical community and the Association of Cardio-Thoracic Surgical Care Practitioners (ACTSCP).
